BILL’S FISHING REPORTS
Current Advice for Catching More Fish
Area fishing holes producing
variety

Captain John Griffith led the “Hooked on Fishing”
crew to a nice catch of redfish, snook and trout in the Mobley
Bay and Double Branch areas. Fishing points and edges with good
tidal flow proved to be the secret to success, and fresh white
bait hooked through the nose attracted the most strikes.
Variety was the order of the day for captain David Graham while
fishing the Tarpon Springs area. At Graham’s first stop
his party caught snook, redfish and trout almost immediately.
After the celebration of their Inshore Slam, the next bait in
the water produced a 120-pound tarpon, completing the Inshore
Super Slam.
Pompano are calling Tampa Bay home right now. Anglers fishing
Bay area bridges with fiddler crabs and pompano jigs are scoring.
The outside bars at Picnic Island, Weedon Island, Pinellas Point
and Cockroach Bay to the Skyway also are holding pompano.
Offshore fishermen are turning their focus from grouper, which
have been hard to catch, to snapper. Mangrove, red and yellowtail
snapper are thick on deepwater ledges and structures. After
seeding the water with a chum bag and small pieces of cut bait,
start fishing the bottom with weighted baits like Spanish sardines
or squid. As the chum melts into the water column and the snapper
rise up to it, fish with light weight or no lead and small pieces
of bait to match the chum.
Captain Bill Miller hosts “Hooked on Fishing” on
Thursdays and Sundays from 7-8 p.m., and Fridays and Mondays
from 11 a.m.-noon on Bright House Networks Catch 47.
