BILL’S FISHING REPORTS
Current Advice for Catching More Fish
Kings Have Been Hot,
But Not Today
Posted November 22, 2006
By BILL MILLER
If there ever is a day during the fall run of kingfish that
you could guarantee catching one it would be today - Thanksgiving
Day - weather permitting. It doesn’t look like, however,
that the weather will permit.
Fall kingfishing has been pretty good because the weather has
been good. The kings followed the bait our way and have stayed
because we had no bad cold fronts to drop the water temp and
stir up the water.
To the north, good catches have been made at the Pasco 1 and
2 artificial reefs and the Dunedin Reef. The Rube Allyn Reef,
South County Reef and the Betty Rose all held fish and lots
of bait. To the south, limit catches were made at the old standby
spot, the Egmont ship channel markers.
All of this will likely change and the deck will be reshuffled
after this last blow and drop in temperatures. To find kingfish
today, look for clear water with structure. Check your charts
for reefs and big wrecks in 50 to 60 feet and start there. The
Whistler and the Triangle would be likely spots if the water
is clear.
Inshore fishing will also be affected by this weather. Look
for the best action on snook, trout and reds in residential
canals, creeks and rivers. The deep water and close proximity
to land will keep the water warmer and make the fish more active.
